Pictou

Town of Pictou - Birthplace of New Scotland

Where it all began - the site of this seaside town was the stage of a great drama when in 1773 a ship named Hector dropped anchor on September 15th. It is the perseverance and proud Highland spirit of the individuals that disembarked that is celebrated in Pictou today.

The hardy Scots that settled this region left their stamp on the spirit of the community - in the festivals and events that celebrate the vibrancy of the culture, in the attractions and museums that are testament to the community's sense of history, and in the music, food and pace of life that exudes everyday for visitors to absorb.
