Culloden Cairn, Knoydart
The defeat of Bonnie Prince Charlie at the Battle of Culloden in 1746 led to the Highland Clearances. The Culloden Cairn commemorates three soldiers who fought at the battle with the Clan Ronald Regiment and who came to Nova Scotia during 1780 and 1781. They were Angus MacDonald, Hugh MacDonald and John MacPherson, all born in Moidart between 1712 and 1716.

Every April the Culloden Memorial Ceremony is held here. Prayers are said and wreaths are laid in memory of the Highlanders who died in the battle and to those who migrated to Nova Scotia.

The Culloden Cairn is at Knoydart on Route 245 [map]. On the north side of the road is a small parking area and interpretive display. A path leads down to the cairn (half a kilometer) which is situated on a cliff over looking the Northumberland Strait.
