Sunrise Trail
Cape John

Cape John is a promontory of land near River John surrounded by the waters of Amet Sound and the Northumberland Strait. It is a good spot to watch the sun go down and to admire our beautiful summer sunsets. There is a fishing wharf at the end of the road where you can watch the lobster boats unload their catch.

  • On maps from the early eighteenth century, it is named Cap Jean.
  • The first pioneers to settle here were from the Isle of Lewis.
  • Seaview Trotting Track opened here in 1921 but closed in the thirties.
Cape John is best reached from the village of River John. From the Sunrise Trail, head north at the cross roads by the gas station. There are some great views of Amet sound on the drive to the Cape.

There is limited space to park near the wharf, but please remember that this is a working wharf and be careful not to block access.
